At What Point Does Israel’s Being Moral Actually Become Immoral?

I wrote this exactly a year ago in November, which reminded me that the recent escalation we just had in Israel marked a year since last year's major escalation with Gaza. I figured I'd share it since I spent the time writing it and never actually did anything with it. Perhaps some of you will agree with my views. PDF here.

Opinion: At What Point Does Israel’s Being Moral Actually Become Immoral?

In light of the current events in southern Israel along the Gaza border, there is much frustration consuming not only members of the Israeli government but also Israelis and Zionists alike.

November of last year saw a record-high number of rockets targeting southern Israel, making it the heaviest bombardment since the 2014 war between Israel and Hamas, the terrorist organization governing the Palestinians living in Gaza. This attack came after months of Palestinians flying incendiary kites and balloons into Israel and starting fires along the Gaza border, both of which have resulted in an overwhelming amount of agricultural terrorism. This attack came several days after Israel allowed $15 million to enter Gaza from Qatar, in order to get Hamas to stop the riots on the border and the burning of Israeli land.

When Hamas called a cease-fire right after targeting Israel with about 460 rockets, Israel accepted it. It is a common practice for Hamas to attack Israel, receive an equal and restraint-focused response from Israel, and then to decide to pause its little game when it can't face what it essentially asked for.

Israel’s Security Cabinet on Wednesday reversed its decision not to permit the Qatari transfer of $15 million, the third installment approved by Israel’s government, in order to ease tensions and avoid a potential humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The initial decision not to permit the funding stemmed from renewed Palestinian rioting and violence along the Gaza-Israel border

Despite multiple opportunities for statehood and peace, continuous aid and support from Israel, as well as receiving international aid- the Palestinian people are still represented under refugee status. In fact, they have held this status for the longest amount of time out of all refugee populations to ever exist. This isn't too surprising, considering the fact that humanitarian aid is used to fund rockets, terror tunnels and incendiary devices, and to pay terrorists and their families. While Abbas continues to admit to using the money for these reasons alone, the international community and Israel sustain this practice directly through their actions.

Israel even gave up Gaza for peace back in 2005. Thousands of Israelis were forcibly removed from their homes by the Israeli government, and those families are now the ones dealing with rockets being sent from the very land they gave up so that they would never have to deal with such terror at all. The government that forced them out of their homes for peace is the very same government that now will not take the necessary steps to protect them from harm and imminent death. Despite all of this, Israel continues to provide the Palestinians with humanitarian aid because the Palestinian leadership does not.

Although there are Palestinians who want peace and are willing to work alongside Israelis, can we rely on this argument alone? Look what happened just several months ago with the Barkan terrorist. Can we take chances with Israeli lives? Do their lives not matter as much as the Palestinians'? Although much of the world seems to think so, why does Israel seem to accept this view? Even if the government states that it does not hold this view, its actions (or its lack thereof) send a different message.

While some argue that it is important for Israel to provide aid for those in the Gaza Strip who are suffering at the hands of their government, others argue that Israel must put its people first- as any other country would and should do. They question why Israel must hold up its moral standards when so many Palestinians do not. Why the double standard?
Why is Israel, a country of good moral standing, negotiating with terrorists? Why does the fate of the security of the state of Israel have to be under the terms of Hamas? Even more critical, is it moral to give those who hate you and could potentially cause more harm to you and others (sending children as suicide bombers, targeting civilians, forcing civilians to enter what are essentially war zones) any form of aid?

It is unfortunate that one must even grapple with the concept of morality, however, what more can be expected when dealing with terrorists? While I feel an innate desire to maintain a "moral" view on this issue and feel pain at the thought of others suffering, I do not view these ideas as a lack of moral clarity. Not anymore. Not at this point in the game. I can no longer bear to see Israelis living in bomb shelters and crying out for help. They have sacrificed more than enough. Nobody else will help them. How could the people running the single Jewish state abandon them too?

We must question what our sensitivity has done for the betterment of the situation, people's lives, our country, and the peace process. Our sensitivity does not seem to have helped us all that much.

At what point has Israel's being moral actually become immoral? Israel has continued along this path of providing aid for so long, and Israeli lives are still threatened and directly affected by the actions of those who the country is upholding. How can we sacrifice the safety and wellbeing of our people, for those who would not consider, even for a moment, sacrificing for us?

How can Israel justify the sending of millions of dollars and aid when Hamas is still holding the bodies of Israel’s captured soldiers and when the Palestinian people celebrate the murder of Israeli civilians? What kind of message does this send to our soldiers, those who have died for Israel, to Israelis in the south and in general, and to the world?

Two-State Solution?

Someone posted on Facebook about how calling for a two-state solution could be seen as being antisemitic.

While I do not believe that those who do call for this solution are doing so out of animosity, I do think that people who claim a two-solution is possible are either ignorant or ignore the reality of the situation which is that the Palestinian leadership and many Palestinians have made it clear that they have no intention of living peacefully with Jews as their neighbors.

This was what I wrote in response.

"Of course a two-state solution would be ideal but many Palestinians and the leadership which they elected are (very openly) vehemently against living with Jews as their neighbors. Even in the West Bank where you have Jews and Palestinians living side by side, we have run into so many issues (and lost lives) because many Palestinians simply do not believe Jews belong there. So when people are against the two-state solution many are coming from that perspective which is that it clearly won’t work. One side simply refuses to be satisfied. A Palestinian state was offered many times. Land was given up (Gaza in 2005 look at what happened) and offers were rejected. So to say a two-state solution is the way to go sounds nice but it hasn’t ever worked in the past. And knowing what Palestinians say openly and proudly about not ever going to live with Jews, as well as the number of Jews killed because of that mentality... it’s sort of fair to see why people might think it’s anti-Semitic. Jews have done enough to appease and shouldn’t have to put their safety on the line any longer to make people who hate them satisfied which is what a two-state solution would take. Calling for a two-state solution is ignoring the facts and essentially saying that Israel should put its safety on the line and concede to further abuse."

Israel Education and Activism Seminar

Today I am sharing a presentation that I gave a couple of months ago on Yom Hazikaron. I have shared this presentation with quite a few people now.

I discussed what happened in Israel🇮🇱 during the last escalation. I gave an overview of the history of Israel, discussed Gaza, the terrorist parties involved, and global terrorism. I basically gave the big picture into the Israel-Palestinian conflict, as well as information that is useful when understanding why these issues exist and how to stand up to anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism.

I am sharing the powerpoint presentation here. 👇🏻 This presentation will also be on my blog (linked on the top👆🏼 of the group) and in the files section of this group. Therefore, it can be accessed at any time.

I want to note that I cover a lot of information and I had only 50 minutes to cover a topic that requires much more time than just that. I am also politically incorrect (for those of you who have been following me for some time now must know that). I believe that it is vital to share facts and history, and sometimes certain things need to be mentioned in order for individuals to be properly educated and aware of what is going on.‼️

Hezbollah In Lebanon and Implications for Israel

Hezbollah is currently stockpiling advanced missile systems and weapons to target Israel. With an estimated 150,000 rockets, it has more than 10 times as many as it had in its last war against Israel in the summer of 2006. Furthermore, many of Hezbollah’s new rockets have extended range and advanced guidance capabilities—meaning that they can hit major Israeli cities.

Hezbollah, the Lebanese-based, Iranian-backed terror group, is set to control Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health. Although Lebanon is ostensibly a U.S. ally—and a major recipient of U.S. aid—the fact that a terrorist group is about to control a major governmental post has received little to no coverage from the Western press.

By controlling the Ministry of Public Health, Hezbollah will be well positioned to carry out the group’s propaganda aims. In the event of a future conflict with Israel, the media would do well to treat Ministry of Public Health claims with skepticism.

Israel is much nicer to its Arab citizens than the Arab countries ever were to their Jewish citizens

10 Reasons Israel is Not An Apartheid State: click here!

Israel is much nicer to its Arab citizens than the Arab countries ever were to their Jewish citizens (more info on this statement below- check it out). The next time you hear somebody complaining, you will know what to say.

Two of my personal favorites:
#2: An Arab judge, George Karra, sentenced an ex-Israeli president Moshe Katsav to prison for seven years.
#7: Israeli Arabs have their own political parties in the Knesset -- some of whom are Israel's harshest critics.

The great mass of Jews left under duress. They were expelled. They were subjected to such enormous pressure that they had no choice but to leave.

The number of Jews living in Arab countries and Iran totaled more than 850,000 at the time of Israel’s independence. Some scholars even think the number is closer to one million. In the North African region, 259,000 Jews fled from Morocco, 140,000 from Algeria, 100,000 from Tunisia, 75,000 from Egypt, and another 38,000 from Libya. In the Middle East, 135,000 Jews were exiled from Iraq, 55,000 from Yemen, 34,000 from Turkey, 20,000 from Lebanon and 18,000 from Syria. Iran forced out 25,000 Jews.

Yom Hazikaron-Remembering Our Fallen Soldiers

Yom Hazikaron- the day of remembrance for Israel's fallen soldiers.
As a young American college student who is thinking about her personal goals and aspirations- I am so used to the idea of thinking of myself, for myself. However, the men and women that we honor today- many of them too young to die- put their lives and plans on hold because they had no other choice.
Honor. Respect. Gratitude.
Thank you for your service. It is because of you that “Am Yisroel Chai” can still be chanted.
And thank you to Israel’s current soldiers. Words cannot express the respect I have for you.

IS (ISIS), America, and Israel

This is an email I received from Act for America, an organization "whose mission is to give Americans concerned about national security and terrorism a powerful, organized, informed and mobilized voice."

This is important because IS (Islamic State), which was formerly known as ISIS (Islamic States of Iraq and Syria), has declared war on Western civilization. IS has already shown interest in working with Hamas to get rid of Israel, because Israel is a democracy and reflects off of American values.

Standing with Israel, therefore, is standing with America.

This quickly answers important questions about ISIS:http://www.thejewishweek.com/features/jw-qa/assessing-isis-threat-israel

A portion of the email is posted below:

The self-declared “Islamic State,” formerly known as ISIS/ISIL, is a direct threat to America—and a greater threat than many in America realize.

Some in the U.S., including some of our policymakers, maintain that the Islamic State is simply a warring faction in an internal, sectarian conflict exclusive to Iraq.
They are sadly mistaken.

The Islamic State is now known to be operating in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon and there are credible reports that it is also at work in Libya. Even Abu Sayyaf, the Filipino Jihadist terrorist organization, with its base of operations some 5,000 miles away from Mosul, Iraq, has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.

Moreover, the Islamic State reportedly has recruits from the U.S., Great Britain, Western Europe and just about every Islamic nation around the globe—some 20,000 fighters by some estimates.

There have been public demonstrations in support of the Islamic State in The Netherlands, Austria and Indonesia.
But, most ominously, the Islamic State’s leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, has promised to “see us in New York.”

America must not ignore this grave threat or allow it to metastasize overseas, because there can be no doubt that a Jihadist organization like the Islamic State that is already committing genocide and other atrocities, will follow through on its threats.

It may seem ridiculous when the Islamic State claims to be bent on raising “the flag of Allah in the White House,” but, rest assured, they are dead serious about trying, and as they have said:

We are here America near our target sooooon. We are everywhere.

A complacent America ignored the warning signs leading up to 9/11—the threats from Bin Laden and his allies, the terrorist attacks on American targets overseas—and the result was September 11th.

We must never be complacent again.

We must be forever vigilant.

News to Remember and LET'S BE LOGICAL

Abu Mazen outlines the terms for the continuation of negotiations
In a conversation with Israeli reporters in Ramallah the Chairman of the Palestinian Authority set three terms for the extension of negotiations: a freeze on building in settlements, the release of prisoners, and a discussion of the issue of borders. Officials in Jerusalem estimated that Israel cannot agree to the release of Arab Israeli prisoners and will not freeze building in East Jerusalem
By: Zehavit Zaslansky

LOGIC:

First of all, Israel already gave up land to the Arabs to appease them and bring peace. Now Israelis are being forced to not thrive on their own land, the land that they didn’t give away.

Second, why should Israel release murderers for peace? If the Arabs want peace, then it is wrong to ask for the release of murderers and then celebrate the murderers’ freedom. Remember: these people are applauded for killing Israelis. Applauded. Israeli sliders are never applauded for killing Palestinians. They fight because they must.

Third, borders are used for the safety of the Israelis. To find out why, visit this blog's page: http://israelclub247.blogspot.com/2013/05/whats-with-fence.html

News to Remember

Israel Signs Historic Trade Agreement in Indonesia, World’s Largest Muslim Country

Naftali Bennett, Minister of Economy and the first Israeli Cabinet member to visit Indonesia in more than a dozen years, signed an historic trade agreement there, which he expects will inject a trillion dollars into the world economy.

Bennett, who is also chairman of the Jewish Home party and a reserve major in the Israel Defense Forces, was representing Israel at the recent World Trade Organization conference in Bali. Shimon Peres had visited Indonesia, which has the world’s largest Muslim population, in 2000 as Israel’s minister of regional cooperation.

Indonesia on the world map

Bennett’s trip was part and parcel of “an effort on the political, economic and international diplomatic fronts,” which also included visits to the US and Australia.
As minister of the economy, he has been stressing an interest in diversifying economic ties.
“We promoted trade agreements with surprising countries that I can’t publicize yet,” he posted on his Facebook page. “We promoted cooperation agreements in research and development with other countries in the East, as I had promised, so that in the future, we will not be so dependent on the European Union.”
To learn more about the European Union, visit:
http://www.euintheus.org/who-we-are/what-is-the-european-union/
“I later gave a speech before the 157 trade ministers, including those from Muslim and Arab states with which Israel does not have diplomatic ties. We didn’t notice anyone walk out.”

In fact, he received enthusiastic applause.
“A couple of years ago, our region entered a new era of turbulence,” which could last for decades, he told the WTO audience.
Israel is the “one place that has withstood the storm,” he continued. It has become the “lighthouse” of the region because of its solid foundations: a “strong economy,” a “flourishing democracy,” and “Jewish roots that date back 3,800 years.”
A lighthouse, however, “also projects light,” and it is therefore important that Israel’s economy not only do well, but also do good, he said, stressing the need to “break down barriers” for the sake of global prosperity.
“An open market is in all our interests,” he stated. “It creates peace and makes the world a better place.”
Discussing Israel’s “innovative…lighthouse technology,” he focused on the areas of agriculture and food security, water, cyber-security, medical advancements and alternative energy.
“I anxiously await the day I can sit down and sign free-trade agreements with all of Israel’s neighbors, as well as other Arab and Muslim states in the wider region,” he stated.

10 Things to Know About Israel

KNOW THESE POINTS ABOUT ISRAEL.
Use them in your conversations about the Arab-Israeli conflict.

POINT: Israel’s size is 1/6 of 1% of the Arab World.

POINT: Israel has 1,300,000 Israeli -Arab citizens, who are 20% of its population.
Israel also officially recognizes and gives privileges to 15 different religions.

POINT: Palestinian Arabs living in the territories are not citizens of Israel.

POINT: There was no Security Fence along the West Bank prior to the relentless violence in 2002, and since it was built, terrorism has dropped by 85%

POINT: Israel wants peace and is willing to make painful compromises by giving away land as it did for peace with Egypt and Jordan.
Today it is unilaterally withdrawing from Gaza.

POINT: Where is the money? Arafat was given billions of dollars to improve living conditions for the Palestinians. He did not build schools, roads or hospitals. He did not improve housing or sewage systems. Those billions are missing. The 20 million dollars a year promised to Arafat’s widow in Paris comes from the coffers of the PA. Why?

POINT: Peace Must Be Taught The PA must immediately change the message being taught by its clerics who call for the murder of Jews and by its teachers who deny Israel’s right to exist. PA schoolbooks must promote peace, not hatred.

POINT: The PA Charter Must be Changed. It still calls for the destruction of Israel, just as the Hamas Charter does.

POINT: Israel is a re-establishment of the Jewish State Jews have lived in and identified with this land for thousands of years. The Old Testament, New Testament and Koran all refer to this area as the land of the Jews. Even if one is not religious, these old documents are another way to show that Jews are indigenous to Israel and the surrounding area.

POINT: The Definition of Zionism: If you believe that Jews have a right to self- determination and to their own country in the area that is ancient Israel where they have maintained a presence for thousands of years, then you are a Zionist.
Most Jews are Zionists, as are many non-Jews.

Israel and America

ISRAEL CREATES JOBS IN AMERICA

From:StandWithUs.com

     1. U.S. aid to Israel creates jobs in America
  • - Israel is pledged to spend nearly 75 percent of the military aid it receives from the U.S. (roughly $2.25 billion) on products manufactured across America.
  • - This spending directly supports over 20,000 jobs and indirectly supports thousands of other jobs according to recent estimates.
  • - More than 1,000 companies in 47 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico have signed contracts worth billions of dollars through the U.S. aid to Israel program.

    2. Israeli investments create jobs in America
  • - Israel is one of America’s top 20 suppliers of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). All FDI in the U.S. supports over 5.6 million jobs.
  • - Israeli companies invested more than $57 billion in the U.S. between 2000 and 2010.
  • - In 2010 Israeli companies invested $7.2 billion in the U.S., nearly 4 percent of total U.S. FDI that year.
  • - Many Israeli companies, including Given Imaging, Amdocs, Netafim, and BrightSource, have opened offices across the U.S.
  • - The U.S. passed new visa legislation in June 2012 to further encourage Israelis to invest in America and create even more jobs.

    3. U.S.-Israel cooperation creates jobs in America
  • - The Binational Science Foundation (BSF), Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation (BIRD), and Binational Agricultural Research and Development Foundation (BARD) are joint projects of the U.S. and Israeli governments.
  • - Their goal is to stimulate, promote, and support cooperation between American and Israeli businesses and scientists.
  • - These organizations have helped create anywhere between 18,000 and 200,000 jobs in the U.S. depending on the estimates used.

    4. Israel helps train American innovators and job creators

    - Cornell University and Israel’s Technion have joined forces to create the Technion-Cornell Innovation Institute in New York City. This new university will train the next generation of American leaders in technology and innovation.

The Temple Mount

Eternal Connection: The Jewish People & the Temple Mount

From: unitedwithisrael.org
By: Rachel Avraham

The Jewish connection to the Temple Mount as a sacred Jewish holy site has existed since ancient times.
The Jewish people have a historical, religious, spiritual, and national connection to the Temple Mount area dating back to antiquity. For the Jewish people, it is the holiest site on the entire planet. It was the location of the creation of Adam, the binding of Isaac, as well as both the First and Second Temples. When the Jewish Temple existed, all Jews used to visit there to perform sacrifices to G-d three times per year, as commanded by G-d. It was the sacred building that housed the Ark of the Covenant in which the Ten Commandments were stored.

Archaeological treasures found there demonstrate that a Jewish Temple used to exist on the Temple Mount. While the Islamic Waqf has attempted to destroy such evidence, Israeli archaeologists have been able to rescue some of it, such as a fragment from a Herodian style Second Temple era sculptured stone that used to stand on the Temple Mount; a Babylonian arrow head attesting to the destruction of the First Temple; and the seal of a First Temple-era priestly family. The Western Wall also still stands today, as a visual reminder that a Jewish Temple used to exist on the Temple Mount.
